Please note: according to Italian law, Tour Leader (Accompagnatore Turistico) is not authorized to conduct guided tours of historical or artistic sites; his role is strictly to accompany groups and handle logistics. Hiking Guides (Guide Ambientali), on the other hand, are authorized to lead tours along hiking trails and within natural environments. Only Licensed Tour Guides (Guide Turistiche) are legally permitted to provide guided tours of cities, monuments, and museums.

It means your guide is a self-employed professional, generally registered for VAT. In other words, they are a freelance professional in this sector, much like an architect, a surveyor, or a psychologist. These professionals operate under a specific tax regime, issue regular invoices, and pay the mandatory pension contributions required in Italy. Taxation can vary, but it is approximately 30% of the total amount. If these rates seem high, please consider that the net amount—after taxes and expenses—must remain fair and reasonable.
If you browse the web, you will find dozens of platforms offering tours at bargain prices. In such cases, there are two possibilities: either they are unlicensed operators who have not passed the required qualifying examination, or they are not declaring their income to the state. In all other cases, the applied rate covers not only the service itself but also the professional's investment in time, study, and resources to practice this profession. Furthermore, our rates are non-negotiable.
